The Role

The University has recently appointed Professor Susan Orr as their new Pro Vice Chancellor for Learning and Teaching.   Susan is leading an ambitious learning, teaching and student experience strategy.  As part of our commitment to social justice we are keen to develop and extend our anti-racist teaching practices and work towards decolonising the curriculum. 

We are seeking to appoint an outstanding individual to join the University’s Leadership Team as Head of Teaching and Learning Enhancement.  The successful candidate will work across the University leading and co-ordinating the delivery of the University Learning, Teaching and Student Experience Strategy.  A key priority of the role will be to address educational inequalities and promote inclusive pedagogy aligning this work to YSJU values and the targets set out in the University’s Access and Participation Plan. 

As a progressive and forward thinking individual you will work closely with the PVC Learning and Teaching and in partnership with School teams and the Student Union to foster inspirational and inclusive teaching, learning, and teaching and assessment practices across the University to support positive outcomes and experiences for all students. 

You will share our values of fairness, sustainability and inspiring others to succeed.  With line management responsibility for a small team of professionals, you will ensure that the University is highlighting best practice through gathering insights from the sector, sharing innovations within the community, and partnering with students in the enhancement of our practice.

Key Requirements

We are particularly keen to hear from applicants who have pedagogic scholarship/research expertise in one of the following areas:

  • Decolonising curriculum and pedagogy
  • Developing anti-racist educational practice
  • Inclusive teaching and learning
