The team

This is an exciting opportunity to join York St John University and be part of an award-winning team of Horticulturists working with gardens kept to the highest of standards to deliver multi-site quality horticulture to contrast and compliment the range of modern and historic buildings.  We have been achieving awards for our gardens over the years with current environmental awards for securing a safe place for hedgehogs, see the blog here.

The role

We are looking for a dynamic, conscientious Gardener to join the Team. A person that is looking for a long-term option, enabling the successful candidate to be part of our plans for further development, maintain and enhancement of our sites to deliver quality gardens for the enjoyment of the University and local community. The sites range from historic building landscapes to a developing sports complex, take a look at the YouTube clip here. This role would suit someone with a keen eye for detail and who has a passion for and interest in horticulture and biodiversity management.

Required skills and experience

You should have:

    Demonstrable experience of working as a professional Gardener across all aspects of grounds maintenance.

    A sound knowledge of Horticulture developed from qualifications and experience.

    Approved proficiency in the use of pedestrian/ride-on grass cutting equipment and power hand tools, such as brush cutters and hedge trimmers as well as traditional hand tools.

    Effective interpersonal and communication skills.

    PA1 & PA6 Certificates of competence.
