Situated in the heart of the historic city of York, and with the recent addition of our new London Campus, York St John University has a long and proud tradition as a distinguished higher education provider.

Our success is founded on the quality of academic teaching and research, our thriving campus environments, our professional and pastoral support, and our values of an inclusive, innovative and ambitious community with a strong sense of belonging.

The Team

You will work within a Customer Services team of 20+ people, including other Resources Assistants and Information Assistants, as part of the Library and Learning Services department. We are a fun and caring team, with the goal of providing the best service possible to students and staff.

The Role

The main duties will include the shelving of new and returned books and journals promptly and accurately, removal of books from self-return bins ready for shelving, the maintenance of Library shelves in good order and tidying study areas. In addition, you will aid the Service Desk by supporting users of the building to borrow, return and renew items via self-service kiosks.

In addition to attention to detail and the ability to work without supervision, you must be fit enough to push a wheeled trolley of books and some bending is needed. The university currently quarantines items after they are returned, so you will be provided with all necessary protective equipment to deal with those duties and other safety measures.
