As one of the fastest growing universities in the UK over recent years, we have a new strategy for the next decade, emphasising our commitment to widening opportunity through the power of education and contributing our talents to creating a fairer world, and a more prosperous region. We are putting inspirational learning and impactful research at the heart of this strategy, recognising our academic expertise as our greatest asset.

English Literature, within the School of Humanities is a well-established and thriving programme. Our burgeoning national and international research profile, excellent teaching and learning, and welcoming and inclusive ethos supports an exceptional student experience (achieving 100% across several categories in the most recent NSS, for example). We are a collegiate and cohesive team and also have strong connections with other programmes across the School, including a wide range of joint honours options.

The role

We are seeking an enthusiastic part time (0.6FTE) Lecturer to contribute to our vibrant undergraduate and postgraduate programmes as cover for a colleague who has been awarded a fellowship for semester 2 (5 months). Your work will involve teaching in a variety of settings, including small group tutorials/seminars and lectures; assessment; and the provision of pastoral and academic support to students. At undergraduate level, this role will primarily cover teaching on our ‘Introduction to Literary Studies 2’ module, which explores texts from the nineteenth century to the present day and ‘Canonicity’, which interrogates the idea of literary value and the concept of the canon.

Key requirements

Candidates will have expertise in teaching an area of English Literature at undergraduate level relevant to the two key modules listed above (Canonicity and Introduction to Literary Studies 2).

It is essential that candidates hold a doctoral level qualification or are near completion.
